How can I tell if I need a tooth extraction?

If you experience tooth sensitivity or have pain when chewing, or if you notice visible holes or pits in your teeth, these are signs of decay. Decay can be caused by a combination of many different factors, including a build up of plaque and bacteria caused by poor oral hygiene or excessive consumption of sugary snacks and beverages. If your tooth has been excessively damaged by decay, Dr. Herrera may suggest extraction and replacement in order to save surrounding teeth and keep your mouth healthy. If you are experiencing the symptoms of a decayed tooth, give us a call to schedule a consultation and we'll review your options.

What is the extraction process?

The extraction process involves removing a tooth from its socket. After your consultation, Dr. Herrera will use our cone beam imaging technology to assess the damaged tooth and determine the best way to remove it. Before the procedure, Dr. Herrera will give you detailed post-op instructions and ensure that you understand what to except during surgery and what to do afterward. Next, you will be given an anesthetic and/or sedative to alleviate any pain. Once the tooth is extracted, you and your designated driver will be sent home with a post-op instruction sheet to ensure a full and swift recovery. We also offer restorative solutions to fill the gap and get your smile back to optimum strength and health.

How do I know if my wisdom teeth need to be removed?

Wisdom teeth are the last molars on each side of the upper and lower jaws, and they are the final teeth to erupt. Wisdom teeth usually appear when a person is in their late teens or early twenties. When these third molars come in they often grow in crooked or only partially erupt. Because this can cause many dental issues such as painful overcrowding or disease, it is recommended that patients have their wisdom teeth evaluated. During your consultation, Dr. Herrera will assess your wisdom teeth and will only suggest extraction if the procedure is necessary. Call us today to set up an appointment and have your wisdom teeth checked.

Do you extract supernumerary teeth?

Supernumerary teeth, also known as hyperdontia, is an oral condition characterized by having an excess number of teeth. Patients with hyperdontia have extra teeth growing in their dental arches. If you have permanent teeth that have grown behind your primary teeth, give us a call today to discuss your extraction options.
