How does sedation dentistry work?

At the Center for Oral and Facial Surgery, we have a wide range of sedation options to suit the needs of any patient. Your safety and comfort are our top priorities, and that’s why we offer everything from oral conscious sedation (a sedative taken in pill-form) to IV sedation for patients with more extreme cases of dental phobia or anxiety. Depending on which option is best for you, Dr. Herrera will administer the sedative and give you all the information you’ll need to stay calm and comfortable during your treatment.

Why might I need sedation dentistry?

Some patients may elect to receive sedation if they suffer from dental phobia or anxiety. However, sedation dentistry may be necessary if you are undergoing a particularly extensive or painful procedure. Whether you need sedation to reduce your anxiety levels or you’re coming in for an extensive procedure, you’re in good hands at the Center for Oral and Facial Surgery, and we always do our best to make sure your visit is as comfortable as possible.

Can I drive after receiving sedation dentistry?

We understand that our patients have busy lives, and that’s why we offer “laughing gas” as one of our sedation options. “Laughing gas” is a safe and effective sedative that is mixed with oxygen and inhaled through a small mask to help you relax during your procedure. One of the benefits of laughing gas is that the effects can be reversed quickly, so you can go about the rest of your day as you normally would. Under this sedative, you will be conscious during your procedure, but you will stay calm and relaxed while Dr. Herrera takes care of your dental needs.

Is sedation dentistry safe?

Whether you’re receiving oral conscious sedation, deep sedation, or any of our other sedation options, you are in good hands with Dr. Herrera. Sedating a patient is normally a very safe procedure, and Dr. Herrera is skilled and experienced, so you can rest assured knowing that you’re in good hands. While sedation keeps patients relaxed and stress-free, it also keeps you safe and allows Dr. Herrera to perform your procedure while you are still and at ease. Your comfort and safety are our top priorities, and we’ll do everything we can to ensure that your visit at the Center for Oral and Facial Surgery is as smooth as possible.

What forms of sedation dentistry do you offer?

At the Center for Oral and Facial Surgery, we offer laughing gas, oral conscious sedation, and deep sedation options. These options are all ingested differently (laughing gas is inhaled, oral conscious sedatives are taken in pill-form, and deep sedation is administered by Dr. Herrera intravenously). If you suffer from any level of dental anxiety or phobia, we have options that will help you enjoy your visit with us and ensure that you don’t have any painful memories of your treatment.
